Nominees and other class royalty were selected last week for Albany High’s homecoming set for Friday, Oct. 20.

The homecoming celebration will kick off with a parade at 5:00 p.m. down Main Street around the courthouse and back to the football field.

The parade is open to the public to enter for graduating classes, local organizations, and groups. In addition to floats decorated by the junior high and each high school grade level, class princes and princesses, organizational sweethearts and beaus, and king and queen nominees will be presented.

Anyone interested in having an entry in the parade should call the high school office at 325-762-3974.

The deadline to enter a float is Tuesday, Oct. 17 by the end of the school day. Late entries may be accepted up until the day of the parade, but those entries will be placed at the back of the line-up.

The game will start at 7:00 p.m. with the Lions hosting Cross Plains in a district contest.

The royal court will be presented at halftime, with the crowning of the king and queen.

The Coming Home King and Queen from the honor class of 1973 – Patti Swank and Randy Deal – will also be presented.

Students in grades 9-12 elected a pair of seniors as nominees for Homecoming King and Queen. Named by the senior class were Robyn Trail and Adam Hill. Juniors selected Kiana Roberson and Tyler Chapman. The sophomores nominated Haylee Sadler and Zane Waggoner, while the freshmen picked Callan Edgar and Lute Wheeler.

A class prince and princess was also voted on by each class, freshmen through juniors. Avery Everitt and Laithe Leech were selected to represent the junior class, while Caroline Chapman and Calhan Fairchild were named by the sophomores, and Tatum Grady and Connor Smith were named by the freshman class.

Other halftime royalty will include the Football Sweetheart and Escort, Madi Parrott and Chip Chambers, along with band beau and sweetheart Ashley Sanchez and Gunner Graham. The FFA sweetheart and beau are Emily Schedule and Donald McCullough, while the FCCLA picked Mimi Ivy and Slade Windham.

The theme for the homecoming parade this year features holidays.

The seniors selected New Year’s Eve, with the junior class picking Halloween. The sophomores will portray 4th of July, and the freshman will be decorating for Christmas.

The seventh and eighth grade classes are combining efforts for one float with a Valentine’s Day theme.
