Three local youth made the sale at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo before the event closed early due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“The Houston stock show did the best that they could getting all of the lambs and goats shown in one day,” said Tammy Clark, who was at the show with her children. “It was very chaotic and surreal to be there during the shutdown. And since we’ve been home, it has just been more unbelievable.”

Although most of the Houston Livestock Show was cancelled, junior market lambs and goats were among the classes that were judged.

Conner Clark placed ninth in Class 6, medium weight junior market goats.

Cache Clark took 14th in Class 2, light weight junior market goats.

Brayden Sullivan placed 15th out of 86 wethers in Class 6, heavy medium weight medium wool junior market lambs.

Also showing lambs at Houston were Pepper Martin and Paisley Clark.

Rodeo Austin was also cancelled.

The Alternative Pig Show took place in Lubbock, and some local youth showed barrows that they had planned to take to Houston and Austin.

Results from the Alternative were not available at press time.

A similar show, designed to allow steer exhibitors a chance to compete with their Houston and Austin entries, had to be cancelled due to increased spread of COVID-19.

Also cancelled were FFA CDE events that local FFA students had planned to attend in Cisco on March 24 and at Tarleton on March 26.
