Clarks place at Denver show

Three Albany siblings showed goats at the National Western Stock Show in Denver, Colorado last week, and all three placed in both their goat classes on Wednesday, Jan. 16, and in the showmanship finals on Tuesday, Jan. 15.

Paisley also completed in the Junior Market Goat Fitting Contest that took place on Tuesday, Jan. 15.

“Connor had been to the National Show in Denver once before, and he wanted to go back,” said their mother Tammy Clark. “The twins had never shown there, and they wanted to go also.”

Tammy Clark said that although it was a long haul and required a lot of work to keep the goats healthy and not too stressed, it was a good trip and gave her children a chance to experience things she was never exposed to until she was an adult.

“They got to see people from across the United States and have made friends from all over,” their mother said. “And Denver is a terminal show, so they got to see the livestock industry go full circle, with the animals being shipped for food.”

The fitting process is also different at the Denver show, and Paisley teamed up with a 10-year-old girl from Corpus Christi to enter the goat fitting contest.

“A lot of what they did in Colorado was working on the hair on the goats’ legs to make them look good, using stiff hair spray and careful clipping,” said Tammy Clark. “The girls had never done that. Although they didn’t place, they were the youngest team out there and learned a lot.”
