City-wide cleanup planned

The Albany Chamber of Commerce is still seeking volunteers for its annual community-wide cleanup day on Saturday, June 10

Volunteers should meet at the Depot at 8:30 a.m. Participants are asked to bring yard tools and implements such as hoes, rakes, gloves, mowers, and weedeaters.

The effort is aimed at beautifying Albany for the influx of visitors expected to attend performances of the Fort Griffin Fandangle later in the month.

“We are asking everybody to bring whatever tools they have,” Chamber manager Brandi Lehew said. “We will have buckets and trash grabbers. First National Bank is providing lunch from Happy Grill for anybody who assists us.”

After work is finished, volunteers will receive a voucher to redeem at Happy Grill.

“Workers will have to check in at the Chamber when we’re done cleaning and we’ll give them a ticket,” Lehew said.

Lehew said the project will follow the same format as in the past.

All area citizens are encouraged to help with a variety of tasks. The workday offers an opportunity for those needing to accumulate volunteer hours to do so.

Cleanup work will include creeks throughout town, Main Street and downtown, and Cook Field Road out to the Fandangle grounds.
