City still working to finalize summer pool schedule

Plans to open the city pool are inching forward as the City of Albany continues to work through staffing issues.

City officials now plan to host Splash Day on Tuesday, June 2 from 6 to 8 p.m., replacing next week’s Family Night. The free event traditionally signals the annual opening of the facility for the summer.

Regular pool hours, which also come with regular pool entry fees, are expected to begin June 3, although Kenisha Lucas at Albany City Hall cautions that operating times could continue changing throughout the summer depending on staff availability.

Once the pool is open for regular hours, the Tuesday Family Night should occur weekly, depending on staff.

Lucas said the city is still dealing with staffing and certification challenges while continuing efforts to secure pool managers for the season.

Shortages of certified lifeguards and pool managers, along with summer activities and vacations, have created uncertainty about the schedule.

Because of the staffing situation, Lucas recommends residents check albany-texas.org daily for updated pool hours and schedule changes.

Private pool parties are still being scheduled for the summer, although time slots are filling quickly.

“We are still booking pool parties, but slots are filling fast,” Lucas said.

Pool rental fees are $200 for a two-hour time block. Reservations must be paid at the time the pool is booked.

To reserve a private party or obtain additional information, contact Albany City Hall at 325-762-3133.
