City sets Splash Day May 25

The Albany City pool will open to the general public on Saturday, May 25 with a one-day-only, free-admittance, Splash Day.

“We typically open the pool the first Saturday after school lets out,” said city park manager Brian Holson. “And we’ll have free admittance on opening day this year.”

Employees

Albany City pool managers this summer are Dakota Fowler, who worked in the same position last summer, and Albany resident Stacy Abbate, who is new to the position.

“Jennifer Bowman will assist the two co-managers by working in the concession area, selling swim passes, and keeping up with the lifeguards,” said Holson.

Typically the city hires around 15 lifeguards each summer.

“They have to be certified,” Holson said. “We also have some other openings for students who are looking for summer work but don’t want to be lifeguards. We still need a few workers to do things like weed eating and mowing.”

Prospective employees must be at least 15 years old and should go to City Hall to pick up a job application.

Pool Opening

The graduating seniors are expected to enjoy the first swim session of the summer at the city pool sometime during the Project Graduation overnight party.

The facility will open to the general public from 12:30-5:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 25 for the annual one day only free Splash Day.

Regular pool hours and daily swim fees are the same as last summer, but the prices for family passes, individual passes, and renting the pool have increased.

Fees

Daily entrance fees to the pool during normal hours will be $2.50 again this summer.

Local residents may purchase pool passes at the swimming pool. A summer pool pass is $75 for an individual and $150 for a family pass for all family members that live in the same household.

Individual and family passes do not cover admission to family swim time on Tuesday evenings or private rental times.

Regular Pool Hours

Monday through Saturday, the pool will be open 12:30-5:30 p.m.

Sunday pool hours are 2:00-5:00 p.m.

There will be a family swim time on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a special rate of $1 per person. Children must be accompanied by a parent during the time block designated for families.

Pool Rentals

The pool will be available for after-hour rentals for $150 per two-hour time block.

Rental times are from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and from 8:30-10:30 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Tuesday nights, the pool is available for rent for the 8:30-10:30 p.m. time slot only.

The only available time for rental on Sunday evenings is from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

To inquire for available rental times and/or to book a time slot, call the City of Albany at 325-762-3133.

Pool rental fees must be paid in full at the time the pool is reserved.
