Although Albany’s municipal pool is not opening until June 1, preparations for the summer season are already well underway.

Applications are currently being taken for a pool manager to join one already hired, as well as for a corps of lifeguards who must complete training by the time they start working.

According to Kenisha Lucas at Albany City Hall, this year’s lifeguard training will be “hybrid,” with online coursework and at least one “pool day.”

“We have set a date of May 27 for the in-water day, and there may be a few more if needed,” Lucas said. “We can start giving the code to do the online portion as soon as we get applications in.”

Bookings for private parties at the pool, after hours on Tuesdays through Sundays, will open on Monday, May 8. For now, calls should be made to City Hall, but that may change when pool managers are in place, Lucas said.

Prices are expected to be the same as last year, but will get a final review by city council members at their next meeting.

Two-hour party slots are $200, which includes lifeguards. Rentals are not available on Mondays when the pool is closed or after family nights on Tuesdays.

Season passes are $200 for a household and $100 for individuals.

The daily individual entrance rate is $2.50, with a rate of $1 per person on Tuesday’s family night.
