The City of Albany is gearing up for summer fun with the hiring of a new pool manager and several life guards for the upcoming season.

The pool will open on Saturday, June 1 with Splash Day. Office staff will meet at the end of this week to reach a decision on the hiring of the new pool manager, according to Kenisha Lucas at Albany City Hall.

“We are pleased at the number of strong applications we have received this year,” Lucas said.

The City is also sifting through applications for lifeguards needed at the pool and hopes to finalize the corps in the coming weeks. Lifeguards must complete training by the time they start working.

This year’s training will be “hybrid” with online coursework and at least one “pool day.”

“We have a set date of May 27 for the in-water day, and there may be a few more if needed,” Lucas said. “We can start giving the code to do the online portion as soon as we get lifeguards hired.”

Private parties can be booked for Tuesdays through Sundays. Reservations can be made beginning May 6 by calling City Hall at 325-762-3133.

Prices are expected to be the same as last year but will be reviewed by council members at their next meeting.

Two hour party slots will be $200, which includes lifeguards. Rentals are not available on Mondays when the pool is closed or after family nights on Tuesdays.

Season passes will be $200 for a house hold and $100 for individuals.

The daily individual entrance rate is set at $2.50 with a rate of $1.00 per person on Tuesday’s family night.
