Albany city council members heard presentations from two of three bidders for the city’s solid waste business and reviewed all three documents before deciding to stay with Republic Services.

Two representatives from County Waste Service (CWS) were present to go over their prices, along with Joe Spano from Republic Services.

There was also a bid from AEL Green Logistics of Abilene.

The decision came down to price, with Republic having the low bid on carts by several dollars, and city manager Billy Holson noting that switching to one of the other two companies would increase costs by almost $50,000 per year.

Holson did tell Spano that ongoing communication problems between his office and Republic’s office definitely need to improve, a situation that Spano promised to take care of.

The motion made by Lester Galbreath to accept the Republic bid was approved unanimously by all five council members.

In other business, the council voted to expanding the eligibility qualifications for the West Central Texas Municipal Water District board of directors include residents outside the city limits, allowing the council to appoint future representatives from both inside and outside the city limits.
