Citizens gather for cleanup day

Local residents volunteered time last Saturday, June 15 to help with the Chamber of Commerce promoted community cleanup day.

“We had about 15 to 20 people show up to help out,” said Chamber manager Mary Beth Jones. “I was very pleased with the number of people who volunteered their Saturday to help clean up Albany. I was also very happy with the Chamber board members who came and the leadership they showed by doing so.”

The amount of work done depends on how many show up, so having a good crowd was helpful.

Volunteers helped to clean the areas leading to the Fandangle grounds.

“We had people start at Allsup’s and work their way down to the Fandangle grounds,” said Jones. “They would clean up the paths and pick up trash as they went along. We wanted to clean up all of the walking paths in time for Fandangle.”

Volunteers did all sorts of tasks, such as mowing, weed eating, and picking up trash.

“We also had volunteers help clean up the Depot and the Bank Park,” said Jones.

Volunteers showed up at 8:00 a.m. and worked until around 11:30 a.m.

“We accomplished a lot during the day,” said Jones. “I was happy with the work that all of the volunteers were able to get done. They did a very good job of helping to make Albany look beautiful. We also had many people clean up their own areas during the day which was nice.”
