Local churches have resumed their regular schedules now that the holidays have passed.

Wednesday night programs at First Baptist and  Friendship Baptist churches returned this week.

First Baptist Church

First Baptist’s Jesus and Me (JAM) children’s ministry and youth programs for junior high and high school students resumed Wednesday, Jan. 11.

“Wednesday nights are back to normal,” FBC’s Lori Schooler said. “We started this week with JAM. We’re so excited get going again.”

JAM meetings are 5:45-7:15 p.m. for students up to sixth grade. Junior high students meet at 6:00 p.m. with high schoolers meeting at 7:00 p.m.

This week, the junior high and high school groups combined for an outing at PrimeTime Family Entertainment Center in Abilene.

Schooler said JAM will continue through April except for March 15, which falls during the week of spring break.

Friendship Baptist

Friendship Baptist holds its children’s program at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesdays with junior high and high school students gathering at 6:15 p.m.

MMPC

Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church youth meet 6:00-7:30 p.m. Youth group gatherings include a meal and program.

On Wednesday, Jan 11, MMPC youth joined with First Baptist Church youth for a spring semester kickoff outing in Abilene.

Wednesday programs will continue through the school year and possibly longer.

“We try to meet in the summer as much as possible,” MMPC youth minister Becky Wills said. “It depends on what the kids have going on and who can get together.”

Weekend of Champions

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes will hold separate weekend retreats for boys and girls in eighth through 12th grades in February at Solid Rock Camp at Eastland.

The girls’ camp is scheduled for Saturday-Sunday, Feb. 4-5, with the boys camp on Saturday-Sunday, Feb. 11-12.

Cost is $120 per camper.

“If someone doesn’t have the money, I’ll find a way to get them a scholarship,” said local FCA representative Paul Johnston, who will again oversee the girls’ program. “I don’t want any kid not to get to go because of money.”

Johnston said flyers for both camps contain QR codes that will allow youth to register for the events.
