Churches report activities for Christmas

The Christmas season is underway and local churches are hosting numerous activities to spread Christmas spirit throughout the community.

Some pastors and congregations have not yet scheduled all of their Christmas events, and several could not be contacted before this week’s deadline. Any changes or additions will be publicized in a later issue, if requested.

Ministerial Alliance 

The Ministerial Alliance sponsored Believe Teen Tree present pickup will be from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 12 at the Feed Store.

Members of the Alliance will deliver Christmas Baskets between the hours of 2:00 and 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 16.

Beltway East

Students of Beltway East Student Ministry will honor the people of Albany that have invested in them over the years at their annual Legacy Dinner on Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 6:00 p.m.

Church of Christ

Members of the Church of Christ plan to gather at the church on Sunday, Dec. 16, for caroling and their annual church Christmas party. 

“I expect that we will have caroling on the 16th as we deliver the Christmas baskets, which is our usual practice,” said pastor Sonny McCauley.

Country Church

Country Church does not have anything special planned at this time, according to pastor Len Smith.

Feed Store

There will be a “Christmas Fiesta” fundraising fajita dinner at The Feed Store at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 9. The meal will be free for children up to sixth grade, while adults will be charged $20 per meal.

Monies raised will be used to help offset some of the costs of a youth ski trip scheduled for Dec. 31 through Jan. 5.

Monday, Dec. 10, the youth group will wrap presents for ResourceCare. 

The Feed Store will host its popular “Mr. Christmas Tree Pageant” on Monday, Dec. 17.  

First Baptist Church

The Women’s Ministry Team will hold an ornament exchange party at the Bumguardner home at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2. Refreshments will be served and all the women of the church are invited.

“Make plans to attend, and bring a wrapped ornament for the exchange,” church secretary Carolyn Waller said. “It is a special time for the ladies of our church to fellowship with one another.”

The church Christmas party will be held the following Sunday, Dec. 9, at 4:00 p.m. The event will include a time of worship. Coffee and desserts will be served.

The congregation will host a Christmas service on Sunday, Dec. 23 at 10:45 a.m.

First Christian 

There will be a children’s Christmas program during the 11:00 a.m. morning worship service on Sunday, Dec. 16.

The next Sunday, Dec. 23, the 11:00 a.m. worship service will include a special choir Christmas cantata entitled On Christmas Day.

First Christian Church will hold a Christmas Eve candlelight service at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 24.

Everyone is invited to all of these events, according to church secretary Mary Rose.

First Methodist

First United Methodist Church will have a mission Advent sermon series every Sunday in December.

There will be a meal followed by Christmas singing and worship on Sunday, Dec. 16, starting at 6:30 p.m.

First United Methodist Church will have a Christmas Eve candlelight worship service at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 24.

“The community is invited,” said pastor Tim Trimble. 

Friendship Baptist

Special Christmas activities at Friendship begin this Sunday, Dec. 2 with a Sunday meal after church, followed by the annual hayride, caroling, and visiting shut-ins.

Jesus of Nazareth

Members of Jesus of Nazareth Catholic Church will join their sister church in Breckenridge, Sacred Heart, for a 6:30 p.m. Advent penance service on Wednesday, Dec. 5.

MMPC

Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church will hold a Celebration of Remembrance in the sanctuary on Sunday, Dec. 2 at 6:00 p.m. The service is a time to remember and celebrate those who are missed during the holiday season. 

The church will have breakfast at 9:30 a.m., Sunday school at 10:00 a.m., and worship service at 11:00 a.m. every Sunday in Advent, Dec. 2, 9, 16, and 23.

MMPC will have a 6:00 p.m. Christmas Eve Candlelight Service in the sanctuary on Monday, Dec. 24.

They will host a Christmas Day Meal at 11:30 a.m. in the fellowship hall on Tuesday, Dec. 25.

“All of these events are open to the entire community,” said the pastor’s assistant Kellie Sherwood.

Trinity Covenant

Trinity Covenant Fellowship does not have anything special planned at this time, according to pastor Douglas Stenberg.

Trinity Lutheran

Trinity Lutheran’s weekly Advent services are scheduled for the next three Wednesdays, Dec. 5, 12, and 19, with a light supper starting at 6:00 p.m., followed by the Advent service at 7:00 p.m.

New this year will be a children’s Bible study, beginning at 5:15 p.m. before each of the Wednesday night Advent services. 

A Christmas ornament exchange will take place in the fellowship hall at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 16.

A children’s program service is set for Christmas Eve, Dec. 24 at 6:30 p.m., with a Christmas Day service at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 25. 

“The entire community is welcome to our Advent and Christmas services,” said pastor Tom Chandler.
