Churches to host special services

Christmas Day falling on a Sunday for the first time since 2016 offers local churches a unique opportunity to celebrate the birth of Christ on a regular day of worship.

Several Albany congregations will conduct special services as part of their Christmas celebrations this weekend.

The next time Christmas Day falls on a Sunday will be 2033.

Bethel Assembly

Bethel Assembly will conduct regular Sunday services.

Coffee will be served at 10:00 a.m. with church services starting at 10:30 a.m.

First Baptist

First Baptist Church will hold its Christmas service on Sunday, Dec. 25 at 10:45 a.m. There will be no Sunday School classes that morning.

First Christian

First Christian Church will hold a special Christmas Eve service at 6:00 p.m. Saturday.

A candlelight communion will be part of the service.

Friendship Baptist

Friendship Baptist will have a 10:00 a.m. Christmas Day service but will not have Sunday School.

MMPC

Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church will host a candlelight Christmas Eve service at 6:00 p.m. Saturday in the sanctuary.

After morning services, MMPC members will host the church’s 14th annual Christmas Day Feast, set for 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.

The event is open to everyone at no charge.

Meals are available for dine-in or pickup. There will be limited delivery to shut-ins and those unable to come to the church.

Trinity Lutheran

Trinity Lutheran Church will have a Christmas Eve Children’s service at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 24.

A Christmas Day worship service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
