Several Albany churches traditionally hold special events during the transition from summer to the start of the school year, but due to COVID and other changes, many churches have not been able to hold their usual events.

Wednesday night youth groups will start for many churches in Sept.

Church of Christ

The Church of Christ will begin Wednesday night classes on Sept. 1.

The Youth in Action kids, which is junior high and high school age, will meet from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Classes for children ages up to sixth grade will have classes from 6:15 to 7:00 p.m.

Adults also have fellowship at the church on Wednesday evenings.

First Baptist Church

The First Baptist Church held a back-to-school pool party on Sunday, Aug. 8.

Families participated in multiple Olympic challenges that were loosely patterned after the Summer Olympics in Tokyo that ended last week. Water games dominated the event.

First Baptist adult volunteers have scheduled JAM meetings for students to begin on Wednesday, Sept. 8 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Dinner is served to the children on a rotational schedule during the Bible study.

MMPC

Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church will hold Wednesday night study groups for junior high and high school students.

The first night is on Sept. 1 at 6:00 p.m.

Students will first gather all together for a meal and then split into two groups, with the girls meeting with Jenn Ceder.

“We don’t have any events planned at the moment,” pastor Anthony Ceder said. “We are currently looking for someone to take over as our youth director, but we do plan on having a back-to-school event at some point.”

First United Methodist

First United Methodist Church will hold Wednesday night services for the youth.

According to organizers, the programs will start sometime in September.

More information about dates and times will be provided at a later date.

Friendship Baptist

Members of the Friendship Baptist Church are also planning on having a back-to-school event.

The church is still working to finalize their Wednesday night schedule and will have more information at a later date.
