The newly organized “Albany Live,” a group dedicated to bringing monthly live musical performances to the Aztec Theater in Albany, is currently selling tickets to the second artist in their singer/songwriter series.

Tickets to attend the Chris Knight show on Saturday, Feb. 5 are now available on the group’s website: www.albanylive.org. Prices are $50 for general admission and $75 for reserved seating in the front two rows.

A native of Kentucky, Knight has been a recording artist for 23 years, with a “honest, no-frills, Americana-fueled, backwoods-grown merger of folk, country, and rock,” according to his publicity.

Ticket sales have been slow but steady for the upcoming show, according Trey Davis who is handling band relations and ticket sales for this performance.

“Albany people are used to buying tickets at the door,” he said. “But our goal is to sell them earlier so we can plan. Chris is an edgy songwriter who has some die-hard fans, so we are hoping to sell-out.”

Davis reported that the next show on Feb. 19 with Shane Smith and the Saints is just 20 tickets shy of selling out already.

And while tickets just opened up on the website for the Paul Cauthen concert on March 10, those tickets are moving fast as well.

“We are really hoping to get this going for the Aztec and for Albany,” Davis said. “We think this can be really good for the downtown stores and restaurants, so we are working on coordinating with them more. Maybe they can stay open longer prior to each concert to give people a chance to shop locally.”

The local non-profit is dedicated to bringing musical performances to the Aztec at least on a monthly basis, with the first series focusing on singer/songwriters.

“We are hoping that if this series this spring is successful, then we will be able to bring in even bigger performers in the next series,” Davis said. “The key to doing that though is to have really good attendance at these first few shows.”

Patrons are also able to add a VIP pass to any entrance ticket for each show that will allow pass holders time to meet the artists, along with other perks such as access to the VIP lounge.

Memberships or patron packages for a series are also available that provide season tickets for each series, as well as recognition in promoting shows and access to the VIP lounge that includes refreshments.

Both tickets and VIP passes are available on the website for each show.

According to a release by his publicist, Knight’s music has always been outside the mainstream, filled with “searing tales of rural characters, fringe survivors, and tumultuous small-town existence.”

Knight writes about what he knows, according the release. Raised in mining country, he earned a degree in agriculture from Western Kentucky University, then worked as a mine reclamation inspector and mine consultant.

“I grew up in a big family in the woods six miles from town, so I have lots of stories,” he said.

The artist has a number of singles and nine albums to his credit.
