The Albany Chest is continuing to accept donations toward its fundraising goal of $47,000 for the 2022 campaign.

As of Tuesday, Nov. 15, the drive had raised $15,648, up more than $1,900 from the previous week.

The Albany Chest helps meet the needs of two dozen local organizations. Applicants for funds range from local service agencies to programs aimed at youth.

Here is a look at some of the 24 applicants.

Albany Softball

The Albany Softball Association provides competition for girls from age 6 to 14. On average, 55 girls a year participate. Without the Association, girls would be forced to travel out of town if they wished to continue their softball careers.

The association is seeking $2,500 for to help provide player scholarships and equipment for less fortunate girls.

The association also has planned upgrades to its field, and a contribution would help cover general maintenance.

Albany Little League

Albany Little League provides recreation for more than 160 children ages 3 to 15 in Albany with age-group competition in T-Ball, Coach
Pitch, Major and Minor baseball, and Intermediate and Junior leagues.

League registration fees account for 56 percent of the total operating budget. The league relies on generous donors such as the Albany Chest to make up the difference.

This year, the league is requesting $2,000, which would cover 13.3 percent of its budget.

Other sources of funding in the past have included outfield signs, sponsors, memorial gifts, and fundraising projects to help make ends meet.

The league also solicits donations for capital needs such as infield grass and new batting cages and nets.

Cause For Paws

Cause for Paws has been helping families pay to have dogs and cats spayed or neutered to prevent unwanted litters and reduce the number of strays. The organization also pays for stray cats to be spayed or neutered.

The organization, which is run solely by local volunteers, is seeking $1,500.

Since its inception in 2008, Cause for Paws has expended $132,209.10 to have 1,292 procedures performed. Owner participation has covered $10,633.78.

The organization is completely dependent on donations from the community.

Chelsey’s Project

Chelsey’s Project diaper ministry uses funds from the Albany Chest to buy diapers and wipes. The ministry helps families in need, single mothers, foster parents, and grandparents.

The project has assisted families who are struggling make ends meet, even those who are employed.

While no specific amount was requested, funds from Albany Chest have been “a blessing to many in the community knowing Chelsey’s Project has what they need,” according to the application.
