Cheerleader tryouts for the 2022-2023 school year were held last Friday, March 11, prior to the early dismissal for spring break.

The varsity high school squad was expanded from eight to 10 members and the JV squad was eliminated for this year.

“We only had six girls sign up for varsity and four for JV, so we just combined them into one squad of 10,” sponsor Nickie Leveridge said. “The tryouts ran very smoothly from what I heard, and the judges from Cisco College did a great job for us.”

The girls were selected on a point system, with 15 percent of their score coming from teacher evaluations and the remaining 85 percent from the judges.

Junior Ella Webb was picked as head cheerleader by receiving the highest score, Other 2023 seniors who will be on next year’s squad are Brooke Kayga and Gracie Price. Also on the varsity will be Kaisley Bartee, Madailein Beard, Caroline Chapman, Mimi Ivy, Myleigh Leveridge, Madison Parrott, and Robyn Trail.

The junior high squad was also expanded from six to eight members, with four girls from next year’s seventh graders and four from the eighth grade.

The junior high group includes Tatum Grady, Charlee Hefner, Layne Lefevre, Ashlyn Miller, Finlee Brown, Tara Cauble, Madeline Stapp, and Charli Trail.
