Cheer camp dates changed

A cheer camp for local girls ages three years through sixth grade, originally planned for next week, has been rescheduled due to conflicts with VBS and with the twice yearly refinishing of the high school gym floors.

“I was able to get together with several of the parents, and we looked at various options,” said new varsity cheerleader sponsor Lindsey Vaughn. “Other locations that we could use next week did not have air conditioning, and this time of year we felt that the girls needed to be able to use an indoor facility with air. We decided to postpone the cheer camp for two weeks.”

The girls cheer camp will be held at the Albany High School gym from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on the evenings of Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, July 30, 31, and Aug. 1.

The varsity cheerleaders, junior high cheerleaders, and the Lion mascot will instruct the campers in basic cheerleading skills and dance routines.

Cheer camp participants will be invited to perform at the Booster Club sponsored Albany Lion Hamburger Supper that takes place at the Bank Park in August.

“I realize that some of those already registered for the camp may not be able to attend on the new dates,” said Vaughn. “If that is the case, please let me know, and I will refund your entry fee.”

Because of the change in dates, the early registration deadline has been extended.

The fee to enroll in cheer camp is $35 per child, and additional siblings are $20 each as long as they are registered before July 25. Early registrants will receive a camp T-shirt.

All registrations turned in on Wednesday, July 25 or later are $40 for each camper, and T-shirts may not be available.

Registration forms will be available at Brookshire’s, Dairy Queen, Prairie Star, First Love Day Care, and the City Pool. Checks can be made payable to “Albany Cheer.”
