The Albany Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a back-to-school bash on Thursday, Aug. 9.

Many downtown merchants plan to stay open until 7:00 p.m. that even-ing to accommodate back-to-school shoppers.

Local fifth through 12th grade students are invited to the Albany City pool to swim with their classmates, according to Chamber office manager Mary Beth Jones.

“We are renting the pool from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. to give parents a chance to go shopping and the kids a last chance to reunite with each other before school starts.” said Jones. “It will also give churches an opportunity to let all of the kids know what they are offering this year.”

Churches plan to provide food and fellowship from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the City Park after the pool party.

The menu is still being determined but according to a couple of the church organizers, it most likely will be hot dogs, chips, and drinks.
