Chamber election slated

By Sam Waller

The Albany Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual meeting after the noon luncheon on Friday, Feb. 4 at the Beehive to elect two directors.

“Everyone is welcome,” Chamber manager Mary Beth Jones said. “The two expiring board members are willing to stay on, but if there are any other nominations, there will be a vote.”

Jones said once the board election by the general Chamber membership is completed, the directors will meet to elect officers.

“We’ve planned our monthly board meeting on Feb. 8 instead of on the usual first Tuesday,” Jones said. “That way, our annual meeting will have already happened, and board members can start their new terms.”

Albany Bucks

Jones reminded that holders of Albany Bucks awarded from Fall Fest and Christmas events have until Feb. 15 to redeem them. Albany Bucks can be redeemed at any Chamber-member business.

“If you have any Albany Bucks, they need to be spent before Feb. 15,” she said. “They’ll be null and void after that.”

Future Events

Planning is underway for this year’s Stars of Albany recognition.

Jones announced that the Chamber will hold a major event in 2023 although the theme has not been decided.

Jones also said a date for the annual Membership Appreciation Crawfish Boil has not yet been determined.

“We may adjust the date,” she said, “but sometime in the spring, we plan to have a Crawfish Boil for members.”

Memberships

Jones said letters for renewing Chamber membership or for new members to join have been mailed.

“Membership is to support Albany and can be private,” she said. “It’s not just for businesses.”
