Center edges toward opening

The Albany senior citizen center received new donated cabinets and a range with stove to complete the center’s kitchenette.

Shackelford County Senior Citizen Activity Center board president Tracy Sullivan said that Jim Nobles built and installed the cabinets, and the Closet Angels organization donated the new stove.

Now that the center has received these needed items, the next greatest need is monetary donations, Sullivan explained.

“We are hoping to have an ongoing fund to take care of insurance, electricity bills, and any repairs that might come up,” Sullivan added. “The center will be self-sustaining, and donations are tax deductible.”

Eventually, it is hoped that the facility will be open Mondays through Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

“Once the finishing touches are added in the kitchenette, the board will discuss an opening date,” Sullivan reported.

She said the center will provide a gathering place for senior adults to meet for fellowship, drink coffee, play games, and eat potluck meals.

Entertainment and activities will be planned for seniors, along with educational programs.

Donations are accepted for the center at Albany City Hall or First National Bank Albany. Contributors are asked to reference the Shackelford County Senior Citizen Activity Center.
