Albany’s Jesus of Nazareth Catholic Church will hold its fifth annual Lenten Fish Fry starting at 5:00 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23 until soldout at theYouth Center.

Organizer Jeff Bezner said the event, which benefits various projects at Jesus of Nazareth, is a good way to start the Lenten season.

“I try to do it earlyin Lent to let people know Easter is around the corner,” Bezner said. “Easter’s the most important event that’s ever happened in the universe.”

Bezner said last year’s event served between 200 and 220 plates.

“I have served up to 250, and I had a little left over last year,” he said. “I always plan on about 250.”

Bezner will have three fryers going, one that can hold six baskets at a time, in an effort to get hot food on plates without creating too much of a wait.

“I try to keep the fish hot, fresh, and crispy,” he said. “That’s why sometimes there’s a line. I’m ready to put out fish fast when the line gets long. I hope I can keep up.”

Meals can be purchased only by donation. Bezner suggests $10 per plate, which will include hush puppies, cole slaw, potato salad, beans, and a dessert. Onion slices, tartar sauce, and lemon wedges also come with the meal.

Service will be takeout only.

“Folksdon’t even have to get out of the ir cars,”Bezner said. “Just pull up, tell us how many plates, and we’ll get it to your car.”
