Care Lunker Classic makes splash in first year
The Care Lunker Classic was held Saturday morning, June 14, at Hubbard Creek Reservoir and brought in a strong turnout for both the competition and the weigh-in ceremony. A total of 49 teams participated in the tournament, which proved to be one of the summer’s biggest events so far.
The event was the brainchild of Jason Harlow and Goodnight Steakhouse and Saloon, who helped organize and promote the tournament in support of a good cause.
Taking first place were Trace Antunes and Jace Lindsay, whose total haul of 40.11 pounds not only earned them the top payout of $10,500 but is also believed to have broken the lake record for total weight and number of fish weighed in.
Braxton Hightower and Tristan Marsh claimed second place with 34.06 pounds and took home $3,000. The third-place finishers, Monty McJimsey and Andy Salazar, brought in 22.12 pounds and received $1,500.
The night before, a lively crowd gathered at Goodnight Steakhouse and Saloon for the Calcutta auction, which reached a total of $28,000.
All proceeds from the tournament go to ResourceCare, a nonprofit community health center that provides affordable medical, dental, and behavioral health services across rural West Texas.
