Car show to draw visitors downtown

Plans are in place for the 14th annual Albany Classic Car Show on Saturday, April 17, and everyone is invited to come downtown and view the entries.

Organizer Robert Snyder said activities will begin on Friday, April 16.

“We will have the traditional Friday night cruise from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by the burnout between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m.” Snyder said.

Even with the forecast calling for rain, Snyder said he isn’t worried about cancelling the show.

“We’ve had rain in the forecast before, and sometimes nothing happens,” Snyder said. “If it isn’t raining Saturday morning, we’ll have the show.”

The rainout date, if needed, is May 15. Registration is from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. on April 17. The registration fee is $20 per entry in the car show, with no charge for spectators.

Entries in the competition will be parked on South First Street between First National Bank and the Bank Park and along the nearby vacant lot.

“The show is open to all classics, antiques, hot rods, customs, trucks, and more,” said Snyder. “We will award specialty awards among the different divisions.”

One change this year involves the “Best of Show” award which will be given  to a car and a truck, instead of just one vehicle.

All judging is done by committee members, with the exception of the People’s Choice award for car and truck, which is done by the actual show participants.

Local residents who don’t typically enter the competition on Saturday will be able to display their vehicles in the ‘host lot’ and other designated locations in downtown Albany.

Breakfast

Members of the Albany Chamber of Commerce will cook and serve breakfast for the crowd at the Bank Park starting around 8:00 a.m.

King and Robertson Insurance Agency is donating groceries for the breakfast which will be available by donation.

All proceeds will help operate the Flying A Car Museum.

Opportunities

Once again, Eagle Auto Parts store in Albany will be providing goodie bags and door prizes.

A disc jockey will be set up during the show playing classic cruising music, and a food truck or two will be available for hungry participants and spectators.

Snyder said while there are not actual vendor spots available, groups who wish to hold a fundraiser may want to set up for the day.

In order to hold a spot, groups will need to sign a bank release which they can get from Lisa Barton by calling 325-762-3388.

For more information or to donate to the show, call Snyder at 325-762-4555.

“If you haven’t already been contacted about being a sponsor or to make a donation, please give me a call,” Snyder said.
