Shackelford County worked through a long agenda Monday morning, accepting a bid to repair a bridge in Precinct 2, adopting a Second Amendment Sanctuary resolution, and approving the 2018 audit.

They also passed an order prohibiting certain fireworks in the county during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays because of drought conditions.

A notice with more details will be published in December.

Bridge Repair

Randy Shahan of Shahan Concrete presented an estimate for repair of a bridge on Caldwell Lane for $12,000, explaining that it would include breaking out the old concrete and replacing, as well as pouring multiple piers.

The estimate was approved by unanimous vote, and Shahan expects to begin work in the next two weeks.

2nd Amendment Sanctuary

Sheriff Ed Miller presented paperwork supporting a resolution declaring Shackelford County to be a Second Amendment Sanctuary County, which protects “citizens’ inalienable and individual rights to keep and bear arms.”

The commissioners approved the resolution.

County Audit

CPA Gayla Fullerton presented the audit for 2017-2018, citing only one finding.

She recommended that more internal controls and review procedures be implemented for the LEC’s commissary account, which has funds deposited by inmates or their families.
