Sue Breeden likes to bead, and judges at the West Texas Fair and Rodeo seem to like her work.

For the fourth year in a row, Breeden earned a blue ribbon for winning her class in the Pinterest Division at the fair.

“I enjoy doing it and probably will continue,” she said this week.

This year’s entry showed a bluebonnet garden with a hummingbird and different kinds of bees buzzing around a bouquet of colorful flowers.

“The whole project is beads,” Breeden said. “It took me quite a while to make this.”

The piece has seven different elements composing the scene.

“There are several different species in it,” she said.

Breeden had the project finished almost a year ago and tries to work ahead on her fair entries.

“Normally, I’ll try to start figuring out what I want to make for next year before the fair,” she said. “I start that pretty quickly because generally it takes a lot of time to put it together. As for next year, I’ve already got it in mind.”

Breeden started beading seriously after she took lessons from Inuit instructors while visiting her daughter in Alaska several years ago.

Past winning fair entries include five colorful parrots, three friends at the beach, and an assortment of Apache Indian artifacts.
