The garden work day at the Ben Richey Boys Ranch Albany location has been tentatively rescheduled for Wednesday, May 3, weather permitting.

Weekend showers delayed the event from the original April 23 date.

Organizer Alicia Burton said the goal is to provide the Boys Ranch with a steady supply of fresh fruits and vegetables.

“They get a lot of food from the Food Bank in Abilene, but it is typically hardest for them to get fresh fruits and vegetables on a regular basis,” she said.

In addition to a vegetable plot, the project includes an orchard with peach, pear, plum, and fig trees.

The public is welcome to come help with the garden.

“Anybody can participate,” she said. “People can reach out to me if they want to come join us. we hope to introduce more people to what the ranch does and what an incredible ministry it is.”

Burton said the only tools participants need to provide are wheelbarrows and rakes.

“Albany Rentals has donated a tiller for us to use for that day,” she said.
