Albany’s Beverly Rogers has been honored for her years of fundraising efforts on behalf of the Alzheimer’s Association with the Abilene chapter donating six books about the disease to the Shackelford County Library.

Among the titles joining the library’s shelves are “Return to Joy” by Charlotte Parker and Virginia Parker, “What’s Happening to Grandpa?” by Maria Shriver, “Making Rounds With Oscar” by David Dosa, “Before I Forget” by B. Smith and Dan Gasby, “The 36-Hour Day” by Nancy L. Mace and Peter V. Rabins, and “Coach Broyles’ Playbook for Alzheimer’s Caregivers” by Frank Broyles.

“I’ve read all of the books, and they’re awesome true stories about different stages of Alzheimer’s,” Rogers said. “They give you doctors’ information they got from trials. They’re great books to read, and I want people to know they’re at the library.”

All of the books include a card reading “This book was given to the Shackelford County Library in honor of Beverly Rogers for her dedication to the Alzheimer’s cause and those impacted by the disease.”

The books were selected by officials from the Alzheimer’s Association’s Abilene chapter.

“The ladies who run the Alzheimer’s Association in Abilene have read the books and recommended them,” Rogers said. “I requested ‘The 36-Hour Day’ because they recommended it for me to read several years ago. It’s just awesome, and I wanted everyone to have the chance to read it.”

Rogers has spent the past 20 years raising money for the Alzheimer’s Association, finally reaching her goal of $100,000 last year. At the 2022 Walk To End Alzheimer’s in Abilene, she was recognized as the year’s top fundraiser after raising nearly $11,000 with Team Albany named the top team.

Earlier this year, she received the Purple Star Award for her “outstanding leadership in the fight against Alzheimer’s Disease.”
