Bible school to start Monday

Children from pre-K to sixth grade are invited to grab their megaphones, lace up their cleats, tune up their instruments and come “gear up for life’s big game” at the Albany Ministerial Alliance supported Community Vacation Bible School Game On! taking place next week, July 16-20, at Friendship Baptist Church.

The theme verse for this year is 2 Peter 1:3. His divine power has given us everything required for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness.

VBS will start at 9:30 a.m. each day, and children can pre-register by contacting organizer Lavelle Vinson by Friday, July 13, at 325-721-2114 or by  contacting their church minister. Parents can also register their children on site Monday by finding Delnita Jones to receive a name tag.

Tisha Wilkins crafted the name tags that feature a different type of ball for each grade level.

“The auditorium has been decorated like a stadium, and Levi and Ashlee Herron will lead our opening ‘pep rally’ and the closings there,” said Vinson. “Tim Trimble will do life applications, and he has a water bottle mission activity lined up for the children.”

Kids who attend the VBS will decorate water bottle labels, and the bottled water will later be given out at an Albany sporting event.

Courtney Clegg and Betsy Spraberry are supervising craft time.

“Stephanie Gleitz and Alison Gardenhire will have games in the gym and outside,” Vinson said. “Nickie Leveridge and Jan Oden are in charge of the music, and Ginger Bumguardner will lead story time.”

Bible stories included this year are the lost sheep (Luke 15:1-7), the resurrection of Lazarus (John 11:1-44), Thomas believed (John 20:19-31), Jesus loves me (John, parts of chapters 13, 19, 20, and 21), and Paul and Silas in prison (Acts 16:23-34).

Snacks will be served at the “concession stand” where Brittany Davis will pass out the cookies and lemonade supplied by various churches.

Cookies should be delivered to Friendship Baptist before the start of VBS that day.

Cookies will be donated by First Baptist on Monday, Church of Christ on Tuesday, Bethel Assembly and First Christian on Wednesday, United Methodist on Thursday, and Matthews Memorial Presbyterian on Friday. Friendship Baptist will provide the drinks.

Wilkins requested that cookies be pre-bagged if possible, with two cookies per bag.

“And we want to avoid any allergy problems, so please do not use or bring any peanut or peanut butter products!” Wilkins requested.

A few more volunteers are still needed to serve as group travel leaders.

“If anyone wants to assist, please call me or Tanya (Petree) by Friday,” said Vinson. “If you can’t reach us, just show up at the church on Monday, and we will put you to work.”

ResourceCare campers will leave VBS at 11:30 a.m. and parents of other VBS attendees are requested to pick up their children at 11:45 a.m.

Those with questions can call Petree at 325.762-3735 or Vinson at 325.721-2114.
