The Albany High School marching band is getting ready for the University Interscholastic League East Zone marching contest on Saturday, Nov. 7, after UIL delayed the contest due to COVID-19 precautions.

The UIL East Zone marching contest normally would be taking place this coming weekend, with the Ragin’ Red Band as a contestant.

Albany band director William Vaughn said that instead a clinician will be in Albany this Saturday, Oct. 17 to work with the students.

“We have made some big changes in the program this year,” Vaughn added. “The students have been working on memorizing the music. This is something the students have not had to do in awhile. There have been some growing pains but it has also really helped.”

Vaughan added that the 29 member band has been playing “Scenes from the West” for the halftime shows this year and this is what the band will play for the upcoming contest at Abilene Wylie.

The schedule for the Region 6 UIL contest at Wylie will be announced at a later date.
