Albany News

Albany city council members approved a resolution for a required plumbing ordinance, talked about truck traffic on residential streets, and okayed the Atmos rate review mechanism during a brief meeting on Monday, Sept. 10.

The council will meet again in special session on Thursday, Sept. 20 to take action on the proposed tax rate of 68.77 cents, which is the same as last year, but 3.3 percent higher than the effective rate.

Plumbing Ordinance

City manager Billy Holson presented a “cross-connection control program” plumbing ordinance being required by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality after a recent audit.

“We received a violation because there is no actual ordinance even though we have a back flow inspection requirement in place,” said Holson, “but there won’t be a fine if we get this done.”

Other Business

•Upon recommendation of the coalition that the city joined, the council approved an Atmos rate increase to $1.06 for residential and $3.20 for commercial.

•Holson will check into options on putting weight limits for trucks traveling on residential streets.
