Baccalaureate slated Sunday

The annual Baccalaureate service for the Albany High School Class of 2019 will be held Sunday, May 19 at the AHS auditorium.

Spencer Newsom, youth minister at Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church, will be the keynote speaker, delivering the message at the 7:00 p.m. ceremony. He will be introduced by valedictorian Caroline Masters.

A total of 28 local seniors are expected to participate in the service and subsequently receive their diplomas during commencement exercises set for Friday, May 24.

Student council president Ryan Hill will lead the invocation at Sunday’s Baccalaureate service and salutatorian Jillian Guinn will present the scripture reading for the evening. Student council parliamentarian Cutter Cowart will lead the benediction.

At 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 19 prior to the Baccalaureate service, all seniors, wearing caps and gowns, will pose for the formal class picture to be taken in the gym.

After the Baccalaureate service, seniors and their parents are invited to attend a reception arranged by the senior parents in the school cafeteria.

Graduation Plans

Commencement exercises for the Class of 2019 will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 24 in the Albany High School gymnasium.

Seniors will meet in the gym earlier the same day, at 9:30 a.m., for graduation practice. 

Braden Davis will sing the Star Spangled Banner at the graduation ceremony.

Class president Madison Wilkins was selected to present the invocation.

Masters has been named as valedictorian of the class, while Guinn is the salutatorian. Both will deliver addresses during the evening cere-mony.

Other honor students are Haley Stewart, Christopher Rivera, Madison Wilkins, and Cutter Edgar.

Local scholarships will be awarded to members of the class who are planning to continue their education.

The scholarship awards will be presented by AHS/AJHS principal Edward Morales.

District superintendent Jonathan Scott will verify that students have met the requirements for graduation.

The awarding of diplomas will be conducted by Morales, along with current Albany school board president Betsy Parsons and counselor Dee Dee Waggoner.

Class vice president Cameron Dacus will give the benediction.

A reception is planned after the graduation cere-mony at the Whitney Theatre. Parents of the junior graduation ushers will host the reception.

Following the ceremony and reception, the most recent AHS graduates will gather at 10:15 p.m. at the Feed Store for Project Graduation. The class members will travel to various locations in Albany for the all-night party.
