Baccalaureate service set Sunday

The annual Baccalaureate service for the Albany High School Class of 2022 is set for Sunday, May 22 at 4:00 p.m. in the high school auditorium.

Former Albany youth minister Spencer Newsom will be the featured speaker. He will be introduced by class valedictorian Luke Ivy.

A total of 34 seniors are expected to participate in the service, which is one of several events that will culminate with graduation next Friday night.

Ty Everitt, student council president, will start the Baccalaureate on Sunday with an invocation, followed by scripture reading by class salutatorian Sarah Cotter.

The event will close with a prayer led by class secretary Kam Browning.

The class will also be honored earlier in the day at a Bible presentation at First Baptist Church starting at 2:00 p.m. A reception featuring traditional Coke floats will follow at the church’s fellowship hall.

Graduation Plans

Commencement exercises for the Class of 2022 will start at 7:00 p.m. at the high school gym on Friday, May 27.

The seniors will meet on Thursday at the gym starting at 9:00 a.m. for a rehearsal and pictures. Members of the class should wear their caps and gowns to the practice in order for pictures to be taken receiving their diplomas prior to the walk through.

Class president Luke Ivy was selected to present the invocation at commencement.

Ivy will also give the valedictory address, while Sarah Cotter will present the saluatorian’s speech.

The honor students who represent the top 25 percent of the class according to grade point average will be presented, including Ivy and Cotter, along withClara Holson, Ty Everitt, Ryan Mark, Brooks Neece, Susie Cormack, and Allison Lemond.

Local scholarships totalling more than $120,000 will be presented prior to the awarding of diplomas.

Cotter, who also serves as the class vice president, give the benediction.

The class will sing the Alma Mater before the recessional.

A reception will be hosted by the junior class ushers and their parents after the graduation cere­mony at the Whitney Theatre.

Ushers for the ceremony will be Presley Green, Ella Webb, Gracie Price, London Fuentes, Cole Chapman, and Coy Le­fevre.
