Baccalaureate service planned this Sunday

The annual Baccalaureate service for the Albany High School Class of 2023 is set for Sunday, May 21 at 4:00 p.m. in the high school auditorium.

Albany librarian Jenny Scott will be the featured speaker. She will be introduced by class valedictorian Ella Webb.

A total of 32 seniors are expected to participate in the service, which is one of several events that will culminate with graduation on Friday, May 26.

Leddie Leech, Student Council president, will begin the service on Sunday with an invocation, followed by scripture reading by class salutatorian Presley Green. The closing prayer led will be led by Student Council secretary Cole Chapman.

The class will also be honored earlier in the day at a Bible presentation at First Baptist Church starting at 2:00 p.m. A reception featuring traditional Coke floats will follow at the church’s fellowship hall.

Seniors will have a class photo taken in caps and gowns at the high school prior to the baccalaureate service. Graduates should meet in the library by 3:00 p.m.

Graduation Plans

Commencement exercises for the Class of 2023 will start at 7:00 p.m. at the high school gym on Friday, May 26.

The seniors will meet on Thursday at the gym starting at 9:00 a.m. for a rehearsal and pictures. Members of the class should wear their caps and gowns to the practice in order for pictures to be taken receiving their diplomas prior to the walk through.

Class president Presley Green was selected to present the invocation at commencement.

Ella Webb will give the valedictory address, while Green will present the salutatorian speech.

The honor students who represent the top 25 percent of the class according to grade point average will be presented, including Webb, Green, Gracie Price, Cole Chapman, Ashley Richards, Haily Cox, Mayson Garcia, and Leddie Leech.

Local scholarships totalling more than $120,000 will be presented.
