The Aztec Theater will take a break from its renovation project Saturday night so that local performers can host Troubadour – Songs of the Singer-Songwriter.

The program will start at 7:00 p.m. Pam Davis will narrate.

Admission is $15 per person. Tickets will be sold at the door and may be paid with cash or check. Credit cards will not be accepted.

Organizer Sandy Abel said about a dozen local musicians will perform songs from a wide range of genres.

“We’re planning to perform songs by well-known singer-songwriters like Jim Croce and Carole King, and some older songs like ‘Scarborough Fair’,” Abel said.

She said the aim is to have a good time and enjoy the music.

“Sing along if you want to,” she said.

Abel said there will be no off-limits areas inside the theater as most of the current renovation work is being done to the exterior.

“They stopped most of the work so the construction dust can settle,” she said. “I don’t think anyone will have any problems.”

Band members are John Caldwell, Keith Kniffen, Zach Harmon, Randall Palmore, George Harvick, Marc Sanders, and Abel.

Singers include Ginny Ivy, Jeff Davis, Kirstin Hilliard, Kayla McCauley, Tim Miler, Carley Price, Brittney Harmon, Lorna Ayers, Kaisley Bartee, Mimi Ivy, and many of the band members.

“We weren’t able to have a show last year,” Abel said. “This group has kind of become a family over the years – a musical family. These concerts are really important to them to reach out to the community and to get to be creative.”
