The Aztec Theater will be filled with music selections from the 1930s through the 1980s this Saturday when local singers and musicians present Road Trip: A Musical Journey.

General admission tickets to the one-night-only live performance will be available at the door for $10 each.

“This is a nostalgic journey back to road trips we took as children, when gas station attendants would fill your tank, check your oil, and put air in your tires,” said organizer Sandy Abel. “The songs that we chose all have something to do with being on the road, or being somewhere – in a particular city or state.”

The musical performance will begin at 7:00 p.m. this Saturday, Nov. 23 and is expected to last about two hours.

A reception is scheduled to follow the show to allow everyone a chance to visit with the musicians, according to Abel.

Band members are John Caldwell, Larry Braddy, Randall Palmore, George Harvick, Marc Sanders, and Abel.

Singers will include Ginny Ivy, Jeff Davis, Kirstin Hilliard, Kayla McCauley, Tim Miler, Megan Ledbetter, Debbie Hamilton, Amanda Guidi, Mike Schooler, Lorna Ayers, Kaisley Bartee, Mimi Ivy, and many of the band members.

“We will do one of the numbers as a tribute to Jim Stuart,” said Abel. “We will have a basket set out for anyone who wishes to donate to the Abilene Preservation League, which was where Jim was serving as a director at the time of his death. We will send those donations on to the League in his name.”
