Awards given at Moran banquet

Moran ISD hosted an end-of-year banquet last week at the Moran gym.
On Tuesday, May 24, the school awards banquet recognized academic achievements from the school year and included a pair of special awards presented by the Moran Masonic Lodge.

During the event, the Moran Masonic Lodge presented a Community Builder award to Jacob Spencer in appreciation of his renovation work on the Moran gymnasium.
“Jacob has done a lot of work in and around the community to make it look better,” Moran superintendent Dr. John Denson said. “He’s done a good job.”
The Masonic Lodge also presented Moran teacher Matthew Hise with the Mirabeau B. Lamar Award for Excellence in Education. Lamar, the second president of the Republic of Texas, is known as “The Father of Texas Education.” The Lamar Medal is awarded annually to students and educators in recognition of outstanding personal achievement.
Top students from sixth grade up were recognized. Haryli Thompson was named top student in sixth grade, Ashlyn Crawford in seventh grade, with Jayla Bussell named eighth grade valedictorian and Chase Murk eighth grade salutatorian.
In the high school grades, Ellis Hise was top student in the freshman class, Terra Thompson in the sophomore class, and Chloe Hendricks in the junior class.
Top students were also named for each subject in each grade.
Other awards were presented for A Honor Roll, A-B Honor Roll, perfect attendance, and UIL academic competition.
Arren Hawley was named Outstanding Male Athlete and Hannah Rogers was named Outstanding Female Athlete.
The four seniors were presented mini diplomas by First Financial Bank.
The 2021-22 cheerleaders introduced 2022-23 cheerleaders and led the school song to close the evening.
