The Albany Volunteer Fire Department will hold its second annual Burgers and Birds fundraiser from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2 at the fire station on Railroad Street.

There is no set price, but donations will be accepted with a suggested price of $10. Meals include fresh-cooked burgers, chips, a drink, and a cookie.

Chief Joel Viertel said funds will go toward helping cover expenses incurred by the department.

“We need things like replacement tires,” Viertel said. “We’re still trying to build Tanker 2, and that’s a pretty expensive project. All the money will go to the general fund, and we’ll use it for whatever eventualities we have.”

The fundraiser is scheduled to coincide with the opening weekend of dove season. Viertel said last year’s inaugural effort drew a good response, which he said reflected the community’s ongoing support for the department.

“We really appreciate the response on Gatorade drinks and other types of support,” he said.
