Aug. 25 deadline set for fall entries

The start of a new school year is also the start of new livestock projects for FFA and 4-H members.

Albany FFA advisor Chris Beard said Friday, Aug. 25 will be a key date for upcoming shows.

“I’ve already got everybody entered who’s going to the West Texas Fair,” Beard said. “The next deadlines will be for the State Fair of Texas in Dallas and the Heart of Texas Fair in Waco. Both of those are due Aug. 25.”

The West Texas Fair is scheduled for Sept. 7-16 in Abilene. The State Fair of Texas will run Sept. 29-Oct. 22. The Heart of Texas Fair dates are Oct. 5-15.

Aug. 25 will also be the deadline to order tags sheep, goat and heifers. The animals will be validated in October.

“Those tags are for the 2024 major shows,” Beard said. “We had one in June for heifers and they can show in the fall. We do another one for the smaller heifers who were too young to validate and they’ll be able to show in 2024.”

Beard said pig tags will be ordered in mid-September.
