Discussions at Monday’s meeting of the Albany ISD board of trustees ranged from state championship football rings and stage floor renovation plans to downed telephone poles and semester finals.

The board met for less than a hour, starting with the required public hearing to formally announce the district’s score of 100 or A rating for superior achievement on the annual Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST).

Kim Fuentes made the motion to accept the report, which passed unanimously. No one from the public was present to discuss the report during the public hearing.

Stage Floor Funding

Superintendent Jonathan Scott noted that a $15,000 anonymous donation plus $12,500 allocated from Shackelford County’s Capital Credits would provide about 3/4 of the funding to make needed repairs to the stage floor in the AHS auditorium.

Scott said that estimate places the project at close to $40,000, replacing deteriorating boards with new maple in order to keep the “traditional” look of the wooden stage rather than using other types of materials.

Construction will hopefully get underway in January and be complete in 3-4 weeks, Scott said.

Other Business

•Board members were each given copies of the annual superintendent’s evaluation document to be completed and discussed at the January meeting.

•Scott showed the board samples of state football rings from one of several companies seeking a contract.

•The superintendent noted that an unknown vehicle knocked down two utility poles at the elementary school on Dec. 11, causing a power outage for several hours. An investigation is ongoing.
