Art could use some love, too!

Last Saturday’s fair-weather family festival at the Old Jail Art Center seemed to trigger a deluge of parents with their children in tow to enjoy the first nice day after almost a week of being “held captive” indoors.

OJAC staff members are hoping that the stream of visitors continues next week with plans to show the museum a little love when Hearts for Arts Week gets underway on Tuesday.

Showing Love

During the week of Valentine’s, museums all over the country, including the Old Jail, are celebrating Hearts for Arts.

“On Feb. 14-18, swing by the OJAC with friends or family and show your love to the collection,” said Erin Whitmore, director of education.

All visitors will receive a gift box full of hearts to place in the galleries, a frame to tag the Old Jail in their favorite photo, and a small gift of appreciation “from our heart to yours,” according to Whitmore.

The hearts can be placed by each visitor’s favorite art or artifact on exhibit.

“You can enjoy the ‘lovely’ displays across the museum, and use the heart frames to tag us on Facebook and Instagram with the hastag #heartsforart #ojac,” said Whitmore.

For more information about the Hearts for Arts Week or about any upcoming programs at the Old Jail Art Center, as well as about memberships, call 325-762-2269.

Regular hours at the museum are Tuesday through Saturday, 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Old Jail is closed on Sundays, Mondays, and major holidays.
