Art camps continue

The final two Old Jail Art Center sponsored children’s summer camps take place in the next week, with limits expected to be reached for both classes.

Eighth through 12th graders will participate in the Cell Series Teen Workshop on Friday, Aug. 10. There were a couple of spots available as of press time.

Those attending the class from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. will use a variety of media to create artwork inspired by current Cell Series artist Helen Altman, according to education director Erin Whitmore.

Lunch will be provided.

Recycled Art

Then on Wednesday, Aug. 15, fourth through seventh grade students will gather at the Old Jail for “Re-Create.”

On press day, there were still several spaces left for students to sign up.

During the final art camp of 2018, participants will use recycled and repurposed materials to create their own pieces.

Scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., the workshop will require a brown bag lunch.

Culture Camp

Last Friday, the Old Jail hosted its 19th annual Cultural Connections Camp and attendees learned about the traditions and art of Italy through crafts, foods, games, and music.

Participants created and took home art inspired by Italian artists.

Registration

To find out if there is still room in the remaining two workshops, call the Old Jail at 325-762-2296 or 325-762-2269.

Things on Strings

Young artists who attended Tuesday and Wednesday’s workshop went home with puppets and a theater inspired by Italian Leonardo Da Vinci.

Dan Peeler and Charlie Rose instructed a dozen or so students in creating DaVinci shadow puppet theaters and puppets.

The workshop is always one of the most popular, and included children from first through seventh grades.
