Twenty-six of the 29 Albany High seniors qualified to attend the upcoming annual College Pie Party that counselor Dee Dee Waggoner arranges every year to reward students that submit a college application early in their graduating year.

“Our goal is for students to apply and plan early, so that they get into the colleges of their choice, have early access to financial aid and housing, and can then enjoy all the activities of the last semester of their senior year with the stress of applying behind them,” said Waggoner.

The members of the Class of 2019 were required to turn in their college and/or technical school applications by Thursday, Nov. 1 to be eligible for a slice of homemade pie.

“The whole point of the pie party is to motivate students to apply early,” said the counselor.

The pie party will be held next Wednesday, Dec. 12, in the family and consumer science room during the normal high school lunch time.

The varieties of pie baked by local volunteers are based upon requests made by the qualifying seniors, and this year’s attendees selected buttermilk, chocolate, coconut, apple, pecan, cherry, and pumpkin pies, according to Waggoner.
