The 35th annual First Impressions Invitational Pig Sale in Shackelford County has been scheduled for Sept. 12 at the Shackelford County Livestock Show Barn.

The sale benefits all Shackelford County youth who exhibit at the county livestock show.

“This is our biggest fundraiser of the year,” Bronco Askew, president of the Shackelford County Youth and Livestock Association, said.

Association board member Mike Parsons said the sale will have 125 animals from 18 providers in 11 states, including Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana. Other states represented include Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, and Colorado.

“All the profits from the sale go back into the organization,” Parsons said. “It is the longest-running livestock sale in the United States right now at 35 years.”

Parsons said the sale provides animals for agriculture projects to FFA and 4-H members throughout Texas and Oklahoma.

“We’ll have about 200 to 250 buyers from all across Oklahoma and Texas,” he said.

The two-day event begins at 10:00 a.m. Sept. 11 with the animals being exhibited and judged. The sale will begin at 1:00 p.m. Sept. 12.

“The animals will exhibited and judged, then they’ll be sold in the order in which they are placed,” Parsons said. “It’s an invitation-only sale. They bring the animals in and we judge them, then we sell them in the order in which they were placed by the judges.”

A concession stand will be open for the event.

“The sale’s put on by all volunteers,” Parsons said. “We look forward to having good sale again this year.”
