Annual dog trials hosted by county ranch

The seventh annual Region 7 American Field Trial Club’s Amateur All Age Championship was held Jan. 28-29 at the Crooked Tree Ranch outside of Albany.

Following the championship, the M.G. Perkins All Age Derby Classic followed with nine dogs entered.

The event serves as a qualifying trial for the ­AFTCA National Amateur Invitational Championship, drawing trainers, owners, and dogs from across the state and beyond.

First place in the championship field of 15 dogs went to Hey Suga Suga (Pearl), a female pointer owned and handled by Dr. Buck Neil of Fort Worth.

Second place was awarded to Reed’s Touch of Class (Max), a pointer mail owned and handled by Jason Reed of Tuttle, Oklahoma.

The third place honors went to Chupacubra, a male pointer owned by Tyson Traw of Wichita Falls.

In the M.G. Perkins Amateur All-Age Derby, first place went to Reed’s Super Spirit, a female pointer owned and handled by Jason Super of Fort Worth.

Second place went to Stylish Tried’n True Girl, a female pointer owned and handled by Tom Curtsinger of Collinsville, Oklahoma.

The third place dog was Wheat’s Only Nova, a female pointer owned and handled by Joshua Wheat of San Antonio.

As is the tradition of the trials, the “Judges’ Dinner” was held at the Icehouse in Albany on Friday evening.The organization thanked the Hughes family who owns the ranch, along with judges Adrian Jackson of Boys Ranch, Texas and Everett Brannan of Powderly, Texas.

Purina, a longtime sponsor of the event, was recognized for ongoing support.
