ResourceCare Day Camp officially ends tomorrow, averaging 86 campers a day.

The Day Camp has been held annually since 1998, when 15 kids participated in the program to provide students with a safe place, food, activities, and experiences during part of their summer vacation.

This year, the camp started on Monday, July 12, and it will continue from 8:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. through tomorrow, July 30.

Drop-off is between 8:20 and 8:45 each morning at the youth center.

Pickup is at 2:45 p.m. at the City Park for students in grades 1-6 and at the Youth Center for ages three through kindergarten age.

During the camp, students participated in outdoor and indoor activities, swimming, and were provided snacks and meals.

The Summer Food Program for Children sponsored the meals for the three-week camp.

Campers visited multiple community businesses and facilities and were hosted by local churches for a four-day Bible school, as well as other events throughout the month.

One of the activities planned for the last two days of the camp is the water Olympics, according to co-director Ragan Riley.

ResourceCare employs student workers to help with the camp. This year, there were 64 students involved from Albany’s secondary campus.

All staff members went through an orientation process to train them on techniques and procedures of the camp.

Riley is grateful for parents and sponsors for allowing ResourceCare to hold the event.

“We want to give a big thank you to parents and sponsors,” Riley said. “You are the ones that make Day Camp possible.”

Donations are still being accepted to help cover camp expenses. Donations can be sent to Resource Care, PO Box 2435, Albany TX 76430 and should be specified for Day Camp.
