America 250 Jubilee Set For Friday
With final preparations underway, Albany residents are invited to gather at the Depot this Friday, July 3, for the community’s America 250 Jubilee celebration.
Hosted by the Albany Chamber of Commerce, the event will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will feature food, contests, family activities and opportunities to celebrate the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary. Organizers say the event is designed to bring the community together ahead of the Independence Day holiday weekend.
One of the featured attractions will be an apple pie contest, with entries due by 11 a.m. Contest divisions include Under 12, ages 12-25, ages 25-50 and Over 50. Winners in each division will receive prizes sponsored by Clear Fork Bank.
A community coloring contest is also underway, with entry forms published in a recent edition of The Albany News. The contest is open to all ages, and prizes for the top three entries are being sponsored by First Financial Bank. Completed entries may be submitted during the celebration.
Several free activities are planned for children throughout the day. Albany cheerleaders will provide patriotic face tattoos, while organizers continue working with the Albany Volunteer Fire Department on additional family-friendly attractions, including a possible bounce house and other activities.
Visitors will also be treated to a free hot dog lunch provided by Teinert Construction. Complimentary bottled water will be available throughout the event thanks to a donation from Turner Law Firm.
The celebration is part of Albany’s participation in the nationwide America 250 initiative, which commemorates the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. While the official anniversary will be observed next year, local organizers hope the Jubilee will serve as an opportunity for residents to reflect on the nation’s history while enjoying a day of community fellowship.
Chamber officials encourage residents of all ages to attend, participate in the contests and spend part of the day celebrating with friends, neighbors and visitors at the Depot. The Albany Chamber of Commerce’s regular Friday community lunch will also be held at the Depot during the celebration.
