After a two-hour closed session on Monday night, members of the Shackelford County Hospital District’s board of directors hurriedly passed a motion to amend district administrator Jera Fairley’s job description, as well as approving the bills, before hail that came along with an expected spring storm interrupted the last part of the May 17 meeting.

The directors also changed the date of the next regular meeting to June 28 because of a conflict with Fandangle practice.

Job Description

All seven board members were present for this week’s session, which again focused on a formal job description for the district administrator.

In a special session on Wednesday, May 5, a quorum of four directors had approved a similar document that included a list of responsibilities, specific work hours, and vacation and sick leave policies for that employee, along with a directive that Fairley should return the signed document by May 13.

However, Fairley reportedly notified one of the directors and then explained in the closed session that the vacation policy did not agree with guidelines that had been passed in a previous meeting.

The closed portion of this week’s session included discussions with several other district employees, according to board president Jo Ann Estridge.

When the meeting reopened to the public, Mike Folsom voiced a motion to accept the amended job description with a clarification of vacation time, extending the date for acceptance to the end of the day on May 27. Otherwise, the document was the same as the one adopted on May 5, according to Estridge.

After a second by John Peterson, the motion passed 6-1, with Janna Ledbetter voting against. Others in favor were Chris Beard, Leslie Belcher, Myra Hise, and Estridge.

Other Business

•Belcher, Estridge, Folsom, and Peterson, who were reelected to their positions in a May 1 election, were sworn in for additional two-year terms.

•Because of the storm, officer elections were postponed until the next meeting.
