An Albany woman was killed last Saturday afternoon in a single vehicle roll-over on U.S. Hwy. 283 11 miles north of Albany.

According to a preliminary report by DPS media communications officer Sgt. Marc Couch, Robin Detrick Morrison, 51, of Albany, was pronounced dead at the scene by Shackelford County judge Robert Skelton.

DPS trooper Gilbert Valdez of Abilene North, assisted by trooper Joseph Osborne of Haskell, investigated the accident, which was reported by a witness at 1:02 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13.

Morrison’s 2002 Chevrolet SUV, which she was using for her Saturday postal delivery route, was northbound on U.S. 283.

According to the DPS report, Morrison “drove left into the wrong side of the roadway...overcorrected, steering the vehicle back toward the proper lane, losing control and going into a side skid.”

The report said that the vehicle left the roadway and overturned, ejecting the driver, who was not believed to be wearing a seatbelt.

Saturday’s accident is the first traffic-related fatality in Shackelford County in several years.
