Albany students to compete at practice meet

Several high school students and sponsors will compete in the Abilene Wylie Valentine UIL Classic on Saturday at Wylie High school.

UIL director Rick Davis said that this is the second practice meet of the season in preparation for the district contest set for March 22 at Stamford.

Albany is entering a computer science team for the first time in several years. Kolton Koemel and Chase McDaniel will be competing, with Matthew Howard serving as the sponsor for the event.

John Birkla and Landon Kreitler are entered in Current Events, with Jonathan Coody and Ann Davis competing in Math.

Holden Sanchez and Davis are entered in number sense, along with Sanchez, Birkla, Kreitler, and Coody competing in Science.

A number of students have entered journalism events as follows:

News Writing – Robyn Trial, Brooklyn Abbate, Braylyn Abbate, Cambree Clegg, Avery Everitt, Sidney Russell, and Holden Sanchez.

Copy Editing – Braylyn Abbate, Avery Everitt, Sidney Russell, Mayson Garcia, and Ashley Richards.

Editorial Writing – Avery Everitt, Sidney Russell, Mayson Garcia, Ashley Richards.

Feature Writing – Robyn Trail, Avery Everitt, Sidney Russell, Ashley Richards.

Headline Writing – Mayson Garcia and Ashley Richards.

Several other students competing in UIL events have also opted to participate in a virtual meet in Stamford next week. Tests will be completed locally and sent to Stamford for judging.
